back in action…

and hard at work!

Behold…the first ads released for the up and coming Southwest Journal Home Improvement Fair.

I’m in the process of creating a system of posters, spec ads, web animations and other print collateral for the Spring 2010 Home Improvement fair. We decided to go a different route this year…power tools and raw materials-using a bit of a throwback to wood-block poster design and wood burning. This was my first stab at creating ANY version of web-applied design, and it’s even got a spot of animation! (I know it’s just a Gif, but gimme a break, I’m a print guy…)

The ads can also be found here.

Pulau Ubin

DSCF4824DSCF4763DSCF4830DSCF4797DSCF4805DSCF4806DSCF4843DSCF4848Images from a day trip to Pulau Ubin, an island off the north coast of Singapore which has been mostly undeveloped since the mid 1960s. Now a tourist destination for Singaporeans, you can find off-road biking, mangrove swamps, dense forest and wild fruit trees (including Durian, Rambutan(pictured) and Mangosteen.

A great day of cycling, local color and beautiful scenery.

A Geotypografika inspired post:

A bottle cap sketch.

A similar example of Erik Brandt’s findings in Human Rebranding, though it may just be a replacement of the original Toyota lettering.

Finally, a very intimidating rabbit-with pipe. Located in Haw Par Villa.

Terima kasih!

Recent Acquisitions

DSCF4733DSCF4739DSCF4742DSCF4743DSCF4744I came across this set of Our Pocket-Books of Knowledge in a bargain-bin of sorts at a used book store in Kampong Glam (Arab Quarter). They were printed in 1969 and put out by the Times Educational Company of Malaysia.

I couldn’t find the whole set, but i’m keeping my eyes peeled.

Jurong Bird Park

For a mere s$18, we were allowed a glimpse into Singapore’s Jurong Bird Park. While Neither Chad nor I have any vested interest in Ornithology, we thought it would be an interesting and educational way to spend an afternoon. Pictured above from left to right: Saddle-bill Stork, clearly illustrated cautionary signage, Pink Flamingos, Puffin signage sponsored by Penguin books (David Pearson would be proud), Chad in a cage (sign reads “The world’s most dangerous creature”), Jurong Bird Park’s Signage system (Pacific North West, anyone?), Pelican and Pelican pictogram signage. Not a bad day, just so many birds!
